The new hard drive arrived this morning and it is now sitting inside my laptop with the contents of the old hard drive copied over and now no more warning whenever I start up that hard drive failure is imminent! 11:40pm: Woo-hoo yes! I got the call this morning just as I was getting ready to go to the gym, letting me know that they'd fixed the broken hinge. It seemed that rather than order in a new hinge they soldered the original one back together, so there's a bit of damage around the hinge area, I guess from the solderer, but it's all very solid now.
